DW23 - Videos Day 1

The first day of #DouglassWeek 2023 kicked off with a diverse and thought-provoking lineup of virtual and video-released events exploring Frederick Douglass’s legacy and influence. Live programming began with a virtual event hosted by the National Portrait Gallery titled “Frederick Douglass: One Life”, which was followed by a virtual live presentation marking the 50th Anniversary of the Frederick Douglass Papers. A series of video releases rounded out the day’s program, including “Frederick Douglass’ Visit to Ireland During the Famine”, “Visualizing Black Activist Lecturing Tours”, “Daguerreotype on My Heart: African American Visual Performance in Britain”, and an early release video titled “Welcome to Douglass Week”. The day showcased a rich blend of historical insight, cultural analysis and artistic interpretation, setting the tone for a week of transatlantic reflection and celebration.
