DW24 - Photos Day 5
On Day 5, we started with an interactive workshop with students from four Belfast schools with two of our Globe Lane Initiative Board members: Paul Oakley Stovall and Nikhil Saboo, who guided the students in how to translate their written work from the page to the stage. Next, we hosted an inspiring and thought-provoking panel discussion on the intersection of Frederick Douglass's legacy and LGBTQIA+ rights, which featured voices from various backgrounds and experiences, including Martin Murray from Sporting Pride, Kieran Higgins from Ulster University, Cllr Micky Murray and Cllr Séamas de Faoite from Belfast City Council. The next event was a talk and Q&A with Belfast changemaker Takura Makoni at the James Connolly Centre Belfast which challenged the common misconception that African heritage is solely defined by slavery, recognizing the diverse and multifaceted experiences of individuals from the African diaspora. We finished the day with a special screening of Glory (1989), introduced by Dr Brian Kelly (QUB).
On Day 5, we also were extremely honored and grateful to meet the First Minister of Northern Ireland, The Lord Mayor of Belfast and the Irish Ambassador of Ireland in NI.
Video footage from the day will be available soon HERE.
