DW24 - Photos Day 7

On Day 7, the final day of #DouglassWeek 2024, we started with a friendly, LGBTQIA+ inclusive rounders match, bringing together people from all walks of life to honor Frederick Douglass's legacy of resilience and activism and his passion for sports. Then, we laced up our shoes and went for a 5K Fun Walk that took us by Douglass sites around Belfast, ending at 2 Royal Avenue for #DouglassWeek cupcakes and coffee! Next, led by Dónal Tabbot, an MFA Photography student at Ulster University, we enjoyed an interactive workshop which delved into the concept of queer utopias as a powerful response to rising hate crimes.

Last but not least, we hosted our annual signature evening of performances and readings dedicated to Frederick Douglass. Led by the creative team of Belfast singer/songwriter Sarah McCreedy and Broadway artists and Globe Lane Initiative Board members Paul Oakley Stovall and Nikhil Saboo, the show featured original songs inspired by Douglass's travels throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland in 1845-46, readings from the incredible delegation from our partner Mass Humanities, and soulful melodies from Belfast powerhouse Siobhan Brown and Soultrane, Cork-based spoken word artist Raphael Olympio with Cliff Masheti and Mark Mavambu, and many more. It was an energizing end to an exhilarating week!
