Changemaker 9: Sarah Parker Remond

Today’s changemaker is Sarah Parker Remond. Born in 1815 in the United States, she was the sister of fellow abolitionist Charles Lenox Remond and became an international feminist abolitionist campaigner who gave many lectures in England, Ireland and Scotland to promote the anti-slavery cause. Sarah Parker Remond was a friend of Frederick Douglass, and she, like him, toured Britain and Ireland. She also became a medical doctor and later lived in Italy!

In July 1935, Dorothy Porter wrote that "The story of her life is an illustration of the untiring efforts of one who desired to help her race in every way and who suffered much mentally and physically in the long fight for the abolition of slavery and the betterment of race relations". Want to learn more about her? Check out what our friend Dr. Hannah-Rose Murray has written about her here!
